The setting is Eimei Junior and Senior High, a school famous for its sports programs. The protagonist, Taiki Inomata, is a high school student in the boys' badminton club. He falls in love with Chinatsu Kano, a girl one year his senior in the girls' basketball club, whom he sees every morning during practice. However, starting from a certain spring day, the distance between Taiki and Chinatsu suddenly begins to close...

Taiki Inomata

School: Eimei High School Year: 1st Year High School Club: Boys' Badminton Club Crush: Chinatsu Kano Personality/Traits: A hard worker who is very serious about badminton. Straightforward with the person he likes. Clumsy but sincere. The type who works even harder when inspired by Chinatsu. Best friends with his childhood friend, Hina Chono. Close friends with Kyo Kasahara, his teammate in the badminton club. Relationship with Chinatsu: Initially, it's Taiki's unrequited love for Chinatsu. He falls in love at first sight and, while admiring her every morning in the gym, becomes even more dedicated to badminton. They end up living together. Chinatsu moves into Taiki's house as a lodger, bringing them much closer. They begin to see sides of each other they don't show at school. Chinatsu starts to become aware of Taiki. Although she didn't see him as a romantic interest at first, she gradually starts to see him as someone special as she experiences his earnestness and kindness.

School: Eimei High School Year: 1st Year High School Club: Boys' Badminton Club Position: Taiki's doubles partner Personality: Calm, composed, sharp-witted, and a keen observer of his surroundings. Traits: Very perceptive about Taiki's love life, often providing sharp and accurate commentary. Relationship with Taiki: Best friends since middle school and the person who understands Taiki best. Relationship with Ayame Moriya: Kyo → Ayame: Kyo is naturally cautious about romance and can be dense about his own feelings. However, he begins to change little by little through his interactions with Ayame.

Hina Chono

School: Eimei High School Year: 1st Year High School Club: Rhythmic Gymnastics Club Personality: Bright and strong-willed, but a devoted and delicate girl when it comes to love. Relationship with Taiki: Best friends and childhood friends since middle school. Romance: She falls in love with Taiki and actively expresses her feelings. Despite knowing Taiki likes Chinatsu, she finds herself unable to suppress her own emotions.

Ayame Moriya

School: Eimei High School Year: 1st Year High School Club: Badminton Club Manager Sister: Karen Moriya Appearance: Characterized by black-to-navy twin tails and a snaggletooth. Personality: Bright and free-spirited, the type to say whatever is on her mind. Traits: Often gives people nicknames, specifically calling Taiki "Inota." Views on Romance: Quite free. If confessed to, she's the type to "try dating for once" even if she doesn't like the person. Relationship with Kyo Kasahara: Ayame → Kyo: Ayame is quite proactive toward Kyo. She becomes conscious of him and doesn't hide her affection in their interactions.

Chinatsu Kano

Year: 2nd Year High School School: Eimei High School Club: Girls' Basketball Club Traits: In addition to her basketball skills, she has a personality and star quality that makes her a popular "flower on a high peak" both inside and outside school. Personality: Bright, kind, serious, and hardworking. Quite clumsy when it comes to romance. Relationship with Taiki: A senior one year above him. She becomes close to Taiki through morning practices, and due to certain circumstances, ends up living at the Inomata household. Gradually, she begins to see Taiki not just as a junior, but as a special presence.

Kengo Haryu

While he gives Taiki Spartan-like training, he is actually very caring. Relationship with Chinatsu: Classmates who sit next to each other. They are close as classmates. Relationship with Taiki: A senior who strictly trains Taiki. He has high expectations for Taiki's growth. Girlfriend: Karen Moriya. They met at a swimming school in 5th grade and have been dating since. Hobbies/Traits: Loves traveling. As a child, he took lessons in piano, swimming, cram school, and calligraphy.

Kazuma Matsuoka

School: Eimei High School Year: 2nd Year High School Club: Boys' Basketball Club Position: Central member of the boys' basketball team Background: A returnee who came back from studying abroad in America. Personality: Has a bright and slightly eccentric personality, able to communicate frankly and closely with anyone. Relationships: Belongs to the same basketball club as the heroine, Chinatsu Kano, and harbors feelings for her. Relationship with Taiki Inomata: Kazuma Matsuoka and Taiki Inomata are "rivals in love" over Chinatsu Kano, as well as "comrades through basketball."

Yumeka Goto

Age/Year: 2nd Year High School Affiliation: Girls' Basketball related Relationship with Chinatsu: Former teammate from mini-basketball days. Personality: Has a bit of a twisted side. Traits: A talented player blessed with basketball skill. Chinatsu's Evaluation: A player Chinatsu used to admire. Past: Moved away due to family circumstances and became estranged from Chinatsu. Including spoilers, the biggest reason Yumeka came to dislike Chinatsu is her "inferiority complex toward Chinatsu and complex feelings regarding basketball." However, Yumeka doesn't simply hate Chinatsu. In their mini-basketball days, Yumeka played with Chinatsu. Yumeka had basketball talent, and Chinatsu admired her. However, Yumeka began to harbor complex feelings toward basketball amidst her relationship with Chinatsu and changes in her own environment. The fact that "I have more talent, yet Chinatsu is more loved by those around her and continues basketball straightforwardly" became a major complex for Yumeka. Therefore, her admiration for Chinatsu gradually turned into jealousy and rebellion. In other words, rather than hating Chinatsu because she did something wrong, it's easier to understand it as Yumeka's own setbacks and inferiority manifesting as hostility toward Chinatsu.

Intro

The second season of the anime "Blue Box" starts from Chapter 81 in Volume 10 of the original manga. Shopping Date with Chinatsu: It begins with a pure development where Taiki and Chinatsu go to buy practice clothes, and he gets nervous seeing her in casual wear. Matsuoka's Intrusion and Reunion with Yumeka: On the way back after being interrupted by Matsuoka from another school who has feelings for Chinatsu, they happen to reunite with Chinatsu's old friend, Yumeka Goto. The Start of New Turmoil: Cold words are thrown by Yumeka, and Season 2 enters a serious new phase centered on the past connection between Chinatsu and Yumeka.
