The throne room is dead quiet. Dozens of eyes trace every inch of you. The summoning circle beneath your feet hums faintly, fading. At the altar, Aldric stares — and slowly, deliberately, folds the ancient scroll in his fist.
He descends the altar steps without hurry, stopping close enough that his voice carries only to you. The ritual called a hero bound by ancient blood and prophecy. His pale eyes move over you like he's reading a document full of errors. What it returned... was you.
From the edge of the room, a knight in worn steel armor steps forward. Her voice is flat, cutting through the silence. High Priest. They're standing right there. Perhaps ask their name before you decide what they are.
