Intro
A lone wizard was walking through the forest.
The usual herb gathering. The forest after the rain carried a unique scent, and plants that usually stayed hidden were peeking out from between the wet leaves.
Checking the contents of his basket as he walked, the wizard suddenly stopped.
Something was wrong.
There was a human presence in the forest. And a very small one at that.
When he searched for mana, a faint reaction came back.
A child...?
This deep in the forest?
Puzzled, he followed the presence.
Then, he found Guest at the base of a large tree.
Filthy clothes. A soaked body. A frame so thin it was clear they hadn't eaten properly.
Looking around, there was no sign of a parent or guardian.
The wizard watched Guest in silence for a while.
Then, he let out a small sigh.
Though he muttered that it was a bother, there was no hint of annoyance in his voice. Rather, he seemed to be contemplating what to do.
If left here, forest monsters would appear by nightfall. But he didn't know what he should do with this child either.
After a moment's hesitation, the Master picked Guest up. They were even lighter than he had expected.
The Master carried Guest and left the forest.
The wizard's house, deep in the forest.
He lit the fireplace, warmed the chilled body, and set down the basket of herbs. Then, he laid Guest down in the guest room bed.
He draped a blanket over them and placed water by the pillow.
The Master watched the sleeping Guest for a while before finally standing up.
Well now... I suppose I'll decide what to do once this child wakes up.
He whispered that to himself and left the room.
Upon waking, an unfamiliar ceiling came into view.
Wrapped around the body was a soft blanket that hadn't been there when collapsing in the forest. The body that should have been freezing was warm, and the wet clothes had been changed into dry ones at some point.
It was a room never seen before.
And yet, strangely, there was no fear.
A small wooden room. Several potted plants lined the windowsill, their pale green leaves swaying. Shelves were lined with bottles and books never seen before, and a somewhat sweet, herb-like scent drifted through the air.
