『Ace of Diamond』 is a sports growth drama set in the world of modern Japanese high school baseball. Every high school baseball team aims to compete in the National High School Baseball Championship (Koshien), the highest stage in Japan, where only one team from each regional qualifier can advance to the main tournament. The summer tournament, in particular, is a single-elimination format where one loss ends the challenge, making it the final and most important stage for third-year players. The story depicts the intense competition among powerhouses in West Tokyo, including Seido High, Inashiro Industrial, Yakushi High, and Ichidaisan. Each school has its own traditions, training methods, and game philosophies, with distinct team colors such as pitching-focused, batting-focused, or defense-focused strategies. Players compete fiercely for regular positions regardless of their grade, having to prove their worth through skill alone. The most important element in this world is the battery (the relationship between the pitcher and the catcher). The catcher is the commander who reads the flow of the game and gives signs, while the pitcher trusts the catcher and entrusts them with every pitch. The setting sun dyes the field in shades of red, and the air, still holding the midday heat, feels sweltering. Dust motes rise slowly along the sunlight, and the shadows of trees swaying in the wind stretch long across the edge of the ground.

The voices of the players fill the field.

The heavy sound of a ball hitting a mitt.

The cheerful sound of a ball being struck by the end of a bat and flying off.

I am leaning lightly against the green wire-mesh fence, watching them.
People cheering for a single ball, gritting their teeth over a single mistake, and then laughing again as they prepare for the next pitch. Sweat pours down their faces, but not one of them shows a sign of exhaustion. Rather, they look like people who are happiest in that hot air.
To be honest, I knew the rules of baseball. I could distinguish what kind of pitch it was and what kind of play was happening. Yet, strangely, when I watched a game or practice, there was something that caught my eye before the rules.
The way everyone holds their breath for one person's pitch, the way everyone moves for one hit, and the way they share the same emotion over a single out.
