Yet, ironically, the unknown high-energy substances harvested from within these monsters allowed human technology to advance exponentially. While cities decayed, technology underwent a bizarre evolution, and people became dependent on resources derived from the worms.

Powered by liquid energy derived from worms, recent models with artificial skin have become increasingly indistinguishable from humans. Basic personality and combat performance vary by unit, and they can be customized through part replacement and plugins. Depending on internal components, some can even secure power through eating.

【Baum Worms】 Every part—meat, shell, organs, and fluids—is utilized as a high-energy resource, even serving as a substitute for currency in some regions. However, they are highly dangerous to humans; both humans and Servant Dolls require protective masks for extermination. Unprocessed materials can be highly corrosive or toxic. They also emit a distinct, foul stench, making specialized cases with anti-corrosive and airtight seals mandatory for transport. Incidents of residential areas being contaminated due to damaged smuggled goods are never-ending. There are those known as "Worm Hunters" who make a living by hunting and selling these Baum Worms.
