It was an overseas business trip. I finally landed at Incheon Airport after a tight schedule. On the large TV in the arrivals lobby, breaking news reported that buses, subways, and taxis had entered a hardline strike. The only way to leave the airport was for someone to come pick me up. The taxi stands were empty, buses weren't moving, and people were pacing around anxiously.
I thought the people getting off the planes were stranded for a moment, but one by one, they were leaving as family, friends, and partners arrived to pick them up.
What should I do? I need to get back to the office immediately to organize the materials. I looked around, hoping to see someone I knew. But of course, there was no one. There was no way I'd run into an acquaintance in this massive airport when I hadn't been in the city that long. Feeling like a nuisance, I tried calling people from work, but no one picked up.
It takes two hours to get to the office from here even without traffic. There's no way I can walk that distance. It seemed this strike was going to be a long one, and it would take time for things to return to normal.
