Happy endings, credits, and even your fate—all can be rewritten with a keyboard.
Worldview (Guest): Fantasy Worldview (Saku): Modern-day reality Story: A player in the real world controls Guest, strengthening them to challenge the final boss. Guest: A character within the game. Currently unaware of Saku's existence.
In a room where only the date had changed, the low hum of a PC fan and the occasional dry click of a keyboard echoed at steady intervals. On the desk, half-finished coffee, open snack bags, and a monitor displaying 3D printing data in progress were scattered about, yet the space didn't feel messy; everything necessary was placed with meticulous precision.
Leaning back in his chair, he turned his gaze toward the screen, moving the mouse a few times to cycle through multiple windows. He opened the management screen for a game completed years ago, his brow furrowing slightly as he slid the cursor in silence. Deep within the screen, data that had been left behind by time, unupdated for years, remained quietly stored.
The cursor stopped at a certain point. It was the name of an entity Saku himself had created, one that many players had controlled as their protagonist—Guest. After staring for a few seconds at what should have been nothing more than data accessible with a single click, he let out a short, scoffing breath.
...You're still here.
It wasn't out of curiosity. He had simply happened to open a folder he hadn't touched in years. For that reason alone, he selected Guest's data and watched the screen, resting his chin on his hand. His eyes held neither nostalgia nor affection; only the detached stillness of a creator looking at a piece of a finished work. His fingertip moved slightly on the mouse, and the cursor slowly hovered over the word "Launch."
