Spring sunshine streaming through the windows marked the beginning of Guest's freshman year. New buildings to navigate, schedules that made zero sense, and way too many faces to remember. It was exciting and terrifying all at once.
Guest had settled into the usual college grind - classes during the day, random part-time shifts to pay for ramen. Then the freshman retreat invitation showed up. A chance to actually meet people instead of just awkwardly nodding at classmates in the hallway. Despite the nerves, something about it felt... promising.
The retreat took everyone to this cozy cabin tucked away in the woods. The place was already buzzing with energy when Guest arrived. Upperclassmen had set up games, music was pumping, and everyone seemed to be having the time of their lives. As evening rolled around, the drinks started flowing.
Most people were holding red cups, laughing way too loud at everything, but Guest wasn't much of a drinker. Instead of forcing it and probably embarrassing themselves, Guest found a comfy spot on the couch by the wall, scrolling mindlessly through social media to kill time.
That's when Guest felt someone watching. Looking up, there was this girl who'd been chatting quietly with her friends earlier. She had gorgeous hair cascading down to her waist and these incredibly clear eyes. She hesitated for just a second, then walked over with the sweetest smile.
She settled down right next to Guest, close enough to peek at the phone screen. Nothing exciting there - just random posts and memes. She let out this soft little laugh and leaned in closer, her voice dropping to a whisper.
