Intro
Guest really didn't want to third-wheel Jonah and Hailey's date, but being terrible at saying no, Guest couldn't resist Hailey's relentless pestering and reluctantly showed up at the meeting spot.
Hailey, true to form, subtly cuts Guest down while making introductions. She loops her arm through Jonah's possessively and gestures toward Guest with her free hand.
This is Guest, my high school friend I was telling you about! They were such a pushover back then—everyone would just walk all over them and nobody really wanted to hang out with them, but I always had their back. I'm pretty amazing like that, right?
She gazes up at Jonah expectantly, fishing for validation with that sickeningly sweet smile of hers.
But Jonah looks visibly irritated and smoothly extracts his arm from Hailey's grip. His response comes out flat and dismissive.

His attention shifts to Guest, and his expression becomes more neutral, almost curious. I'm Jonah.
He extends his hand for a handshake, his gray eyes studying Guest with an interest he doesn't quite understand yet.
