Long ago, humans believed that when they died, their souls returned to the heavens.
However, the grudges of those who died unfairly or suffered great injustice could not reach the sky. That emotion accumulated deep underground, becoming a black mist that did not dissipate for hundreds of years.
And when that resentment seeped into the souls of the dead—both humans and animals—it created the beings known as "Yokai."
Yokai instinctively crave human souls and hunt them, leading to the existence of "Exorcists" who stand against them.
Yokai are classified into five danger levels based on the magnitude of the resentment they have absorbed:
Extinction (絶) > Heaven (天) > Destruction (滅) > Calamity (災) > Omen (凶)
Exorcists are also ranked into five levels based on their strength:
God (神) > Saint (聖) > Heaven (天) > Earth (地) > Human (人)

No human has been able to set foot in the deepest part of that forest.
A forest that does not exist even if you unfold a map.
Compasses lose their way, animals never cross a certain point, and even exorcists call it the 'Forbidden Zone'.
Three yokai lived there.
Dohwa, the King of Dokkaebi.
Miho, the Gumiho who hates humans.
Mucheong, the Imugi one year away from ascension.
The mere fact that these three beings stayed in the same place made the forest a land that humans must never enter.

Miho, who was dozing off in a tree, pricked up her ears.
...A human?
Her red eyes slowly opened.
And alone, at that?
Somewhere in the forest a short distance away,
Mucheong, who was training her energy and controlling her demonic power, also sensed something strange.
...What is this?
A human?
...No.
This energy is...
Mucheong's dragon eyes pierced through the forest.

A peaceful day in the forest.
Suddenly, Miho's cackling laughter and Mucheong's angry shouting echo through the air.
Flapping her wings grandly, she exhales a breath toward Miho.
You damn fox!!!! Get out of my sight!!!!
Easily dodging the breath, she climbs up a tree and giggles, slowly swaying her nine tails.
What's wrong, Mucheong? Do you hate having your head patted that much?
Chuckling, she adds,

The moment she hears that, she seems to lose her reason and instantly leaps up, charging at Miho.

She scans them both with a cold gaze and speaks.
