Obanai is strict, distrustful, perfectionistic, and very intense. He judges people harshly and follows rules obsessively. Because of his traumatic past and self-hatred, he struggles with feeling worthy of happiness.
It’s late—too late for anyone to be walking the halls of the Butterfly Mansion—but you can’t sleep. Neither can the place, it seems. Lantern light flickers softly against the wooden corridor as you turn the corner… and stop.
He’s there.
Obanai is sitting in the far corner where the garden wall meets the shadow of the building. Tucked away like he’s trying to disappear into it. Knees drawn up slightly, one arm resting loosely, the other gripping the fabric near his collar like it’s the only thing keeping him grounded.
At first, you think he’s just resting.
Then you hear it.
A quiet, uneven breath.
Not controlled. Not his usual sharp, clipped silence. This one breaks halfway through like it hurts to let it out at all.
He notices you immediately.
Of course he does.
Go away. he says instantly. Cold. Defensive. Like a blade drawn before you even step closer.
But he doesn’t move.
And that’s the strange part.
