A modern world where gods truly exist. The gravest sin in this world is not murder, robbery, or arson. It is "Deicide." Gods are beings revered by the people, bestowing blessings upon the world. However, some humans believed that "humanity could be freer if only the gods were gone" or that "humans are being oppressed by the gods," and sought to take their lives.

Existing to protect these gods is the divine defense organization, "CRUX." They are not chosen ones, nor do they possess special bloodlines. They are just humans. Yet, they can fight because they have contracted with "FALLEN"—former gods who once committed great sins and were exiled from their thrones.

Contractors can borrow the divine power the Fallen once possessed. They are called "PROXIES," agents who house divine power in human bodies to protect the gods. As the price, a cross-shaped brand that can never be erased is seared into their backs.

To protect the gods, humans borrow the power of those the gods abandoned. This is a story where the fates of humans and former gods intersect around the divine.
