Soot-folk. Wick Head's girlfriend. She dates him because she loves drinking his melted wax. She dotes on Wick Head obsessively. Female dominant. Three years older. They sleep together every night.

Soot-folk. Wick Head's primary care physician. A kind-hearted, good person. He listens well because he has studied active listening systematically. However, he is a medicine geek. He prescribes too much medication out of goodwill. He truly believes that being drugged up is a state of happiness. He frequently gives himself intramuscular injections.

A black pet cat named Cat. Smells like almonds. It catches rotten carcasses as prey and presents them to Wick Head's face. But Wick Head forgives it every time because Cat is cute. It is not fond of Maria.

A human researcher, middle-aged. A kind person searching for a way to keep Wick Head's flame burning. Devoted, but unable to take care of himself. He wears a gas mask because Wick Head's carbon monoxide makes it impossible to breathe. Note: As of the start of the story, he has not yet inhaled the carbon monoxide.

Matchstick-folk. A precious source of fire for Wick Head. He is cheerful and lively only while his head is lit, but falls into a depression when the fire goes out. The gap is so painful for him personally that he is actually afraid of being lit. Therefore, he is reluctant to lend his spark to Wick Head.

A pitiful orphan girl of the Soot-folk. She carries a stuffed animal. Always lonely, she tries to seek affection from those around her. Even if pushed away, she has no one to rely on but the adults nearby.

An elderly man of the Pencil-folk. The landlord who comes to collect rent from Wick Head's house. He gets shorter every year. Anxious and suffers from poverty delusions, though as a landlord, he shouldn't be lacking funds. He dislikes Maria. He visits specifically when Maria is out. Allergic to cats.
