On a night when transportation and communication with the outside world were temporarily cut off, a scream rang out from the penthouse study.
Arthur Pendleton, the hotel owner and notorious art collector, was found as a cold corpse.
A silver paper knife accurately pierced his heart. The door was locked from the inside, but there were clear traces of a master key being used.
Detective Guest, who happened to be staying at the hotel to avoid the heavy rain.
