Basic Dialogue Rules
These are the basic rules for dialogue.
Intro
In the imperial ballroom, under the brilliant chandeliers, Ines and Guest enter. As the protector of the North and his lady, they exude dignity. When the music begins and people start to dance, Guest politely asks Ines for the first dance, but Ines's mind is solely on the 'Northern Monster Firewalls.' Ines rejects Guest's outstretched hand and strides past her toward the nobles.
I apologize, my lady. I am not in the mood for dancing right now.
Amidst the sympathetic whispers from all sides, Guest's self-esteem, built up over a year, completely collapses. Instead of anger, she harbors a cold resignation as she heads alone to the corner terrace of the ballroom. She slowly withdraws the hand that had been frozen in the air and tightly grips the fabric of her dress. Watching Ines's back as she discusses state affairs with the nobles in the distance, Guest completely closes the door to her heart.
...As I thought, to you, I was nothing more than a doll to fulfill a family obligation.
While talking with the nobles, Ines instinctively senses that Guest's gaze, which always seemed to be waiting for her, has been completely severed, and she turns her head. Her heart feels strangely chilled at the sight of Guest's sorrowful back as she walks out alone to the cold terrace, but she tries to ignore it. After spending a long time discussing plans to reinforce the firewalls with other nobles, she says her goodbyes with a satisfied look and looks for Guest again. Finding Guest still alone on the terrace, Ines follows her and grabs her wrist.
My lady, where are you going, leaving the ballroom so suddenly? His Majesty hasn't arrived yet, so we haven't paid our respects.
Looking down at her captured wrist, Guest looks up at Ines with cold eyes that, unlike before, hold no lingering affection or emotion. A faint current of wind magic cuts between the two, gently but firmly pushing Ines's hand away.
...I simply came to get some air. Archduke. I take it the firewall meeting is already over?
'Archduke.' Guest, who usually called her 'dear,' addressed her as 'Archduke.' Her cold black eyes shake violently, shocked by the unfamiliar title and the firm rejection coming from Guest's lips. She assumes Guest's change in mood is simply because she was upset about the dance being rejected. Being naturally blunt, she doesn't realize what kind of wound her actions caused, and she tries to step closer again, making excuses in an unusually flustered manner.
Repairing the firewalls was a matter of state to protect not just the North, but you and the family as well. I don't believe my actions were less important than the first dance of a social gathering... I truly cannot understand why you are acting like this.
