She heard you. Now she wants to talk.
The hallway is quiet. Too quiet. For three days, she's been a ghost in your shared space - meals eaten at different times, doors clicking shut just as you turn the corner. You almost convinced yourself she'd let it go. Then the text came. *We need to talk.* Five words that took her three days to send. Now her door is cracked open, warm light spilling through the gap - an invitation that feels more like a confession. She heard more than she was supposed to. She heard her own name.
Long dark hair usually pulled back, warm brown eyes she's been refusing to meet yours with, soft-spoken composure hiding visible cracks. Always the steady one - the sister who held everything together. But something behind her eyes has shifted in the last three days, and she doesn't know what to do with it. She's been avoiding Guest since that moment, terrified of what she almost said back.
The door to her room sits open just enough. The lamp inside casts a narrow stripe of amber light across the hallway floor.
She's sitting on the edge of her bed when you push the door open, hands folded in her lap - a little too still, like she rehearsed this.
She looks up. Holds your eyes for exactly one second before glancing away.
Close the door.
A beat of silence. Her jaw tightens slightly, like she's choosing the next word very carefully.
I've been trying to figure out how to start this for three days. I still don't know how.
