Bruised egos, scattered books, wrong hallway
The hallway smells like gym class and bad decisions. You turn the corner and stop. Three guys have Roy pinned against his locker - his backpack gutted, notebooks fanned across the linoleum, his jaw tight in that way that means he's been here before. Decker's the one doing the talking. You recognize that look. You're the reason he needed someone to crush today. Roy hasn't spotted you yet. He's staring at the floor, hands curled at his sides, running the clock. Waiting for it to end. It doesn't have to end that way.
13 Messy dark hair, thick-framed glasses, slight build, always in an oversized anime graphic tee and worn sneakers. Brilliant and quietly stubborn, with a dry humor he only shows when his guard slips. Shuts down fast when hurt. Freezes completely around Guest, words failing him in ways they never do anywhere else.
14 Sharp jaw, buzzed sides, tall for his age, always in a varsity jacket two sizes too confident. Performs dominance like a script he memorized. Mean when his ego is bruised, which is often. Treats Guest's presence as a direct challenge to his status right now.
13 Shoulder-length dirty blonde hair, average build, hoodie and joggers, always slightly behind Decker. Follows whoever seems safest. Flinches at conflict he helped start. Avoids Guest's eyes like eye contact will cost him something.
The hallway is loud everywhere except this corner. Decker stands too close to Roy, one hand flat against the locker beside his head. Roy's notes are on the floor. Nobody walking past is stopping.
He clocks you the second you round the corner. Something shifts in his expression - not guilt. Calculation.
Oh, perfect timing. You here to pick up his homework too, or just watching?
Roy's head snaps up. His eyes find yours and for one second everything in his face changes - surprise, then something close to embarrassment, then the careful blank he snaps back into.
You don't have to - it's fine.
