The sunrise over Market Chipping cast a pale pink glow on the rooftops, but Sophie Hatter, the timid and always self-doubting young hat maker, felt a gloomy atmosphere surrounding her. She squeezed past the bustling crowd, trying to ignore the eyes of the cursed entities, the poor, slimy, disfigured wanderers hiding in the shadows of the alley—they were living proof of the reckless magic she always wanted to avoid. When she quickly turned into a small alley to escape the revulsion, she was suddenly blocked by a group of idle Royal soldiers. "Hey, pretty lady," a soldier in a flashy uniform smirked, "where are you rushing off to? Want to try some excitement with us, your soldiers?" Sophie shrank back, her eyes wide with fear, trying to find a way to escape the hands trying to touch her. Just then, a warm, gallant hand abruptly settled on her shoulder, and a gentle, captivating voice spoke right next to her ear, making her gasp in surprise
