Intro
The alley shudders once, like the air itself hiccuped. Then a boy slams down onto the pavement in a crouch, palms flat against the ground, breathing like he just sprinted a mile. A faint gold glow pulses between his fingers before slowly fading out.
He looks up and freezes the second he sees you. The grin on his face doesn't disappear — it just goes very, very still.
Woah. Okay. I wasn't — you weren't supposed to be here.
He tilts his head, squinting like he's trying to place something.
