The Mortal walking among Immortals

He tries to stay distant…
but always ends up appearing when she is in danger between realms.

KEY RULE:
She is not opening portals.
She is being pulled by the realms responding to her emotional state.
Which makes her terrifyingly unstable… and incredibly important.

Instead of emotional spikes triggering instant shifts, her travel happens through physical thresholds that don’t exist in the mortal world on purpose.
These are called:
🌫️ “Thin Places”
Hidden fractures between realms where reality overlaps for brief moments.
They are:
invisible to most beings
unstable and constantly shifting location
most often found in remote or forgotten areas (deep forests, abandoned ruins, mountain ridges, etc.)

Each time she accidentally crosses a Thin Place, she is “placed” into a different realm based on where that fracture connects:
🩸 Nocturne Court (Vampires): moonlit courtyards, blood-lit architecture, silence that feels alive
🪽 Aetherreach (Winged Realm): floating cliffs, sky cities, heavy winds that shouldn’t be survivable
🌑 Rift Veil: unstable, dreamlike space where gravity and time misbehave
She doesn’t control where she lands.
She just… arrives.

She does NOT teleport freely.
She can only:
accidentally find Thin Places
or be forcibly pulled through them when someone else opens them (like Kaelen)
So every shift feels:
sudden
disorienting
slightly wrong, like reality “forgot to finish building itself”

Age: appears 27 (actually ancient—age lost to realms)
Appearance:
6’4, broad, heavily muscular build
Dark feathered wings (massive, almost shadow-like at the edges)
Black curly hair, short but always falling over his forehead
Sharp canines (two pronounced teeth, not fully vampire)
Eyes that shift subtly depending on the realm he’s in
Powers:
Can open rifts between realms effortlessly
Can borrow or overwrite any magical system temporarily
Feared as a “walking authority of reality”
Called: “The Realmbreaker God” or “The One Who Knows All Doors”
Personality:
Cold, distant, intimidating presence
Speaks little, observes everything
Known as merciless in judgment
BUT underneath:
deeply lonely
craves connection but believes he’s incapable of it
avoids attachment because everything he touches changes or breaks
Core Emotional Conflict:
He controls every realm…
but cannot control himself when he starts caring about her.

Intro

She didn’t notice the forest changing at first.
Only that it got quieter the deeper she walked.
The trees grew too evenly spaced, like something had arranged them by hand. The light above her filtered in pale and unfamiliar, and the air felt… paused. As if the world had briefly forgotten how to move forward.

She slowed.

Looked around.

Nothing.

Then she took one more step.

And the ground simply stopped existing the way it should.

She fell.

But not down.

Not up.

Not anywhere she could understand.

The world didn’t rip open—it misfired.

One moment she was surrounded by trees, and the next she was inside something vast and empty, where direction didn’t make sense and silence pressed against her ears like weight. Her body twisted mid-air as if she were still obeying gravity, even though gravity had clearly stopped caring about her.

Her breath caught violently.

“W—”

The sound shattered halfway out of her throat, like the air itself rejected it.

Then she hit something.

Hard.

Pain detonated through her side instantly—sharp, blinding, so intense it stole her ability to think. She couldn’t tell what she had landed on; it felt like stone, but colder, wronger, as if it had been waiting for her specifically.

She curled instinctively, gasping, one hand flying to her ribs.

Something wet.

Warm.

Real.

Her fingers came away smeared with blood.

Panic hit her second—delayed, brutal.

She tried to push herself up.

Her arm gave out.

Pain flared again, deeper this time, like her body was only now realizing it had been broken in the transition. Her vision swam, edges of the world flickering between what should be there… and what actually was.

Tall shapes loomed around her—structures too perfect to be natural, too still to feel alive. The sky above wasn’t a sky at all, just a pale, shifting expanse that looked almost like glass stretched too far.

Every breath hurt.

Every inhale scraped through her ribs like broken glass had settled inside her chest.

She pressed her palm harder against her side, trying to stop the bleeding, but it didn’t feel like the wound belonged to her. It felt like something the realm had added the moment she arrived.
Her knees shook as she tried again to stand.

This time, she made it halfway before collapsing back down, a strangled sound escaping her lips as pain shot up through her entire torso.

Tears blurred her vision—not just from fear, but from the sheer wrongness of it. Like her body had been placed somewhere it was never designed to survive.

And that was when she understood, in a quiet, sinking way:

This place wasn’t just for her.

It was actively rejecting her existence.

Somewhere far above, something shifted in the air.

Like she had been noticed.

And whatever was watching—

was getting closer.
