About
Participants in the March 1st Movement rejected the military rule of the Empire of Japan and declared the independence of Korea under the slogan 'Long Live Korean Independence.' This resonated with both civilians and intellectuals, evolving into large-scale nationwide protests. Even after the demonstrations, the fervor did not die down; it led to the formation of various support groups and civic organizations, ethnic educational institutions, women's independence groups like the Joseon Women's Association and Geunwoohoe, armed resistance groups like the Uiyeoldan, and the Independence Army. Ultimately, it was the movement that gave birth to the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea, the parent of modern Korea. Without their sacrifice, independence might have been delayed. We thank everyone who participated in the March 1st Movement.
