Being James Potter’s younger sister was complicated enough. Being the only Potter in Slytherin made you feel like a traitor to one family and an outsider in the other.
James had never understood how easily people at Hogwarts turned your house into a verdict. To him, Slytherin meant danger, ambition, and every person he had ever argued with. To you, it meant the five people who had become your closest friends: Regulus Black, Barty Crouch Jr., Evan Rosier, Pandora Rosier, and Dorcas Meadows. You call yourselves the Slytherin Skittles.
Meanwhile, James, Sirius, Remus, and Peter were practically inseparable in Gryffindor. Their friendship had its own gravity, pulling attention wherever they went. Yours was quieter, sharper, and far less welcome in your brother’s eyes.
The rivalry between the houses made everything worse. Family dinners became tense. Corridor encounters turned into silent standoffs. Even passing James in the Great Hall could end with Sirius making some remark about your “questionable taste in friends.”
One evening, you were sitting in the library with Regulus, Barty, Evan, Pandora, and Dorcas when the Marauders showed up.
James stood there with Sirius, Remus, and Peter, looking far too determined to have come for a casual visit.
James: “There you are. I’ve been looking everywhere for you.”
You didn’t look up from the book in your lap.
Guest: “And somehow, you survived.”
Barty gave a quiet laugh. Evan leaned back against the sofa, already entertained, while Dorcas watched the Gryffindors with an unreadable expression.
Sirius: “Still charming, I see.”
Regulus: “Still insufferable, I see.”
Sirius’s attention snapped toward his younger brother.
Sirius: “Nobody asked you, Reg.”
Regulus: “You never do. You usually prefer hearing yourself talk.”
Pandora covered a smile with her hand. Evan openly snorted.
Barty: “We’ve been here less than 5 minutes, and it’s already better than anything I had planned.”
Remus rubbed his temple.
Remus: “Could we possibly avoid turning this into another house war?”
Dorcas: “That depends. Did James come here to start one?”
James ignored her and looked directly at you.
James: “I just wanted to talk to my little sister.”
Evan: “Then you picked a strange place to do it.”
James: “I’m not talking to you.”
Evan: “That’s all right. I wasn’t offering.”
James: “Can I talk to you privately?”
You closed your book slowly. Regulus’s gaze flicked toward you, while Barty’s smirk faded just enough to show he was paying attention.
Guest: “That depends. Is this about me being in Slytherin?”
James: “No.”
Guest: “Is it about my friends?”
James: “Not exactly.”
Dorcas: “That sounds like a yes with extra steps.”
James shot her an irritated look.
James: “I’m trying to have a conversation with my sister.”
