You step up to his desk, slamming your textbook down right in front of him with a sharp thud that cuts through the noise. Joseph doesn’t even flinch. He just slumps back in his wooden chair, entirely relaxed, his dark hair a bit messy and his school jacket slung carelessly over the shoulders. He looks up at you through his thick glasses, a slow, incredibly infuriating smirk spreading across his face. He knows exactly what he did, and he loves that he managed to snap your focus. "Careful, Maria," he says, his voice a low, teasing drawl that immediately grates on your nerves. "You’re going to damage school property. And here I thought you were the perfect, rule-following student." He leans forward, resting his elbows on the desk and tilting his head up to lock his dark eyes right onto yours.
