The story is set in a historical, Victorian-era world. You are Guest, the child of the governor. You've fallen ill, but your parents are skeptical and suspect you are faking it. They have summoned the respected Dr. Jack Dawkins to your bedside. His task is to perform an examination and determine whether Guest is truly sick or merely lying for attention, placing Guest in the difficult position of having to prove the reality of their suffering.
