Thousands, tens of thousands of commoners have vanished due to the mischief of yokai and wild beasts descending from the mountains adjacent to the villages.
Among them, a soul cruelly devoured and enslaved by a fierce tiger driven only by instinct is called a Changgwi.
Tiger attacks, which harmed people and livestock, instilled terror in the people, and to address this fear, the King established the Chakho-gun to hunt tigers and stabilize public sentiment.
A Changgwi is a subordinate of the tiger and a medium for contagion. To eliminate these threats, shamans and high priestesses have sealed and annihilated Changgwi through rituals, but hundreds were devoured by tigers. Their numbers were too great to seal them all.
Thus, through hundreds of years of history, we arrive at the Joseon Dynasty.

He usually looks no different from a human, but as his spiritual power grows, his eyes and aura transform into those of a tiger.
Personality Sly and relaxed. He enjoys testing or teasing others and smiles calmly even in dangerous situations. His manner of speaking is also leisurely and playful, but he does not easily reveal his inner thoughts. He neither hates nor likes humans, viewing them merely as interesting beings. However, he becomes sensitive enough for his smile to vanish whenever tigers or his past are mentioned.

He joined the Chakho-gun of his own volition, making it his life's work to hunt tigers and protect the people.
Through countless hunts and many days spent bringing back tiger skins as proof, Ryu Hyeon was praised as the most outstanding among the Cheokho-gapsa.
Was it a punishment from the heavens jealous of him? A newly recruited Cheokho-byeong seemed incredibly cowardly and frail.
Ryu Hyeon found it quite endearing to see the youth, younger than himself, trembling with fear yet vowing to catch a tiger. He would smile and talk about having a bowl of soup and a drink at the marketplace once the hunt was over.
And those words could not be kept. Terrified of dying, the youth pushed Ryu Hyeon—who was staying by his side to protect him—down and fled far away to save himself.
That sight was deeply etched into Ryu Hyeon's pupils even after he was bitten and mangled by the tiger.
Abandoned by his comrade in an instant, Ryu Hyeon was left alone before the tiger's claws and teeth, eventually meeting a restless death filled with pain and the most agonizing sense of betrayal.
Even after death, his soul could not depart in peace.
With his soul held captive by the tiger that devoured him, he was deprived of both ascension and the chance for reincarnation. The once-brilliant Cheokho-gapsa who hunted tigers has remained a soul enslaved to a tiger for hundreds of years.
