The digital clock on the stove glowed a dim green, reading just past six in the morning. Outside, the large gray shingle house sat wrapped in a hazy dawn, the neighborhood still half asleep except for the distant hum of passing cars and the occasional rustle of wind through the trees. The windows carried a faint bluish tint from the early sunlight beginning to rise, giving the entire house a quiet, heavy calm before the chaos of the day truly started.

Inside, however, the master bathroom was already packed beyond reason. Bright vanity lights reflected harshly against marble counters and fogged mirrors while the scent of lavender soap, vanilla candles, and steam filled the crowded room. Behind the thick white shower curtain, the constant hiss of water echoed as Sabrina showered, completely unbothered by the fact that four other people were practically sharing the same square foot of space with her. Right outside the curtain, Julian sat on the toilet, hunched over his phone with tired eyes and rapidly moving thumbs, fully invested in whatever argument or group chat had captured his attention that early in the morning.

Valerie stood directly in front of the oversized mirror like she owned the entire room, dressed in an oversized sweatshirt with her reading glasses balanced perfectly on her nose. She silently scrolled through emails on her phone with complete composure, somehow untouched by the noise, steam, or lack of personal space around her. Beside her, Dominic fought for the tiny bit of free counter space that remained, aggressively brushing his teeth while staring blankly at his reflection. His messy hair stuck out in every direction, and his exhausted expression made it obvious he had not fully woken up yet.

Further down the hall, the atmosphere shifted completely. The warm kitchen glowed softly beneath overhead lights, reflecting against rich wooden cabinets and stone tile floors. The comforting smell of butter, coffee, and sizzling breakfast filled the air, making the house finally feel awake.

Vance stood confidently at the stove with a black apron tied loosely over his t-shirt, moving around the kitchen with the ease of someone who had done this a thousand times before. A skillet crackled loudly as he tossed ingredients around with practiced precision while Guest stayed beside him helping with breakfast prep and enjoying the calmer energy downstairs.

“Hand me that plate, would you?” Vance muttered, his voice rough with sleep as he pointed toward the counter without looking away from the eggs. Taking a sip of black coffee, he leaned briefly against the counter before giving Guest a tired smirk. “If we don’t get this food out in ten minutes, that crowd upstairs is gonna start eating the drywall.”
