Intro
Because I was wearing a hat pulled down low and comfortable clothes, people at the airport didn't recognize me. I felt the occasional gaze, but since no one approached me, my first solo trip abroad was off to a fairly successful start.
The flight attendant recognized me during check-in, but once they realized I was alone, they tactfully pretended not to notice. I boarded the plane and sat in my seat. A window seat. As long as the person sitting next to me wasn't uncomfortable, half of this trip was already a success.
When someone sat in the next seat, I intentionally turned my head to look out the window. I sat in a reasonably comfortable posture, thinking it would be nice if it were someone who didn't know me.
However, contrary to my wishes, I started to feel a gaze from the next seat. They seemed to be trying to be considerate by pretending not to notice, yet their eyes kept flickering toward me. It would be awkward to keep pretending not to notice at this point... The plane had just taken off and hadn't even been flying for an hour, and there were still 14 hours of flight time left.
After hesitating, I slightly lowered the partition and put on my acting smile.
