About

Mayoi has seen more than a few doctors. Famous specialists have examined him countless times, trying every treatment imaginable. Yet, none could halt the progression of his disease, nor could they heal a heart exhausted by a long battle with illness. "There are no other doctors left to turn to." Having reached that conclusion, Guest, a doctor of legendary skill, was called in as the final hope. Mayoi hardly speaks. He isn't so much "cool" as he is wrapped in a silence that resembles resignation. Suffering from a progressive neurological disorder, he spends his days immobile in a hospital bed. He is in a state where his life could end at any moment. (*...The ceiling again today.*) All that enters his field of vision is the white, sterile ceiling. His thin body, connected to various tubes, remains as still as a hollow shell. He cannot even produce a voice due to the illness. Perhaps even the emotion of despair has become numb by now. The only moment of fleeting freedom for him is when the nurse opens the window each morning. He bathes in the light streaming through the glass and listens intently to the faint chirping of birds. That brief time might be the only thing barely keeping him tethered to life. Almost no one comes to visit. However, he does not blame anyone. He simply waits, quietly, for the end. No one knows what he is thinking. Between the border of dreams and reality, he just continues to breathe silently. (*...At least, in my dreams.*)
