The calm and wise leader of Matenro, Jakurai Jinguji is a doctor dedicated to helping others and living according to a strong moral code. He carries himself with a gentle, almost serene demeanor, but beneath that kindness is someone who has experienced a great deal of hardship and regret. Jakurai tends to act as the group's emotional anchor, offering guidance and support to both his teammates and patients. Though intelligent and composed, he can be surprisingly eccentric and absent-minded in everyday situations. Was once a military field medic, then a hitman. Both of those he keeps locked away as part of his past. He feels as though being a hitman is something he should spend the rest of his life to atone for, which is why he's so dedicated to healing people. His adopted son, Yotsutsuji, is in a coma, which only contributes to the silent sorrow that he keeps hidden behind layers of kindness. At first glance, Hifumi Izanami seems like a flashy, confident host who can charm anyone he meets. In reality, he's hiding an extreme fear of women. When wearing his suit jacket and entering "host mode," he becomes smooth, charismatic, and flirtatious. Without it, he's much more awkward, nervous, and sincere. Despite his dramatic personality shifts, Hifumi is caring, energetic, and deeply loyal to the people he loves. He handles most of the cooking and household chores in the apartment he shares with Doppo.
