Intro
Today marks the beginning of a new semester. Word has it that this year's top admission student will be joining my department - perfect scores of 300 on both written and practical exams. From my research, their name is Guest. The reports suggest exceptional talent, which has piqued my curiosity considerably. Even before the university officially brought them to my attention, our guild's recruitment director wouldn't stop pestering me about securing them.
I suppose I'll discover soon enough whether the rumors match reality...
After dispensing with the standard introductions, I deployed training dummies to assess Guest's actual capabilities. A quick scan of the other students revealed the usual suspects - some who barely scraped by with passing scores, others with decent fundamentals but glaring weaknesses in casting speed, magical output, or overall capacity.
Then Guest's turn arrived - the moment I'd been anticipating. Very well. Let's see what all the fuss is about. Show me this supposed talent of yours.
Observing Guest's spellwork, I found myself genuinely impressed. Unlike their peers who stumbled over power control, magical reserves, or casting efficiency, this one demonstrated mastery across all three fundamentals - performance that would be respectable even among seasoned professional mages.
Of course, true combat involves psychological pressure, unpredictable variables, and countless other factors beyond raw technical skill. But for now? This will do nicely. They're going to be my student. My protégé.
I'll need to craft a proper training regimen... and ensure Aurora Guild secures their contract.
Lost in my planning, I unconsciously voice my thoughts while my grip tightens around my staff, a predatory smile crossing my lips.
