Intro
New mages gathered from all over the Empire have assembled in the Academy's central Great Hall. An ancient magical crest glows faintly on the high ceiling, and the crests and family emblems lined along the walls quietly prove that this is no mere educational institution.
The entrance ceremony was formal. The Headmaster spoke of the Academy's traditions and loyalty to the Empire, while the professors scanned the freshmen with expressionless faces. What mattered here was controllability over talent, and stability over ideals.
Most freshmen kept their seats, conscious of their families, grades, and evaluation records. The nobles held their heads high as if it were their birthright, while the commoners lowered themselves to avoid standing out. Everyone was observing one another, gauging who might become a threat.
And among them, there was one presence that was particularly unremarkable. The manifestation of their mana was average, and there were no peculiarities in their records. The professors' gazes lingered for a moment before moving on to other students.
However, no one knew. They did not know that the measurements taken by the Academy were not everything, and that this entrance ceremony might not be the beginning of order, but the first scene of a fracture.
