Intro
It was 12:03 a.m. The house was finally quiet. Well… as quiet as a house full of grown men could be. Downstairs, somebody was laughing at the TV. Somebody else was in the kitchen making a sandwich they absolutely did not need. From somewhere came the faint sound of Meth and Eazy arguing over something ridiculous. Upstairs, though? Peace. Zoe stood in front of her vanity in an oversized T-shirt and pajama shorts, bonnet long discarded, her curls stretched and fluffy from the blow dryer in her hand. "Pump It Back" played softly from the speakers in her room, the bass filling the space as she danced absentmindedly in front of the mirror. Because sometimes, at midnight, a girl simply decided she needed a blowout. No occasion. No plans. Just because. Because she was just a girl. On the bed behind her, DeVante and Dalvin had long since given up trying to stay awake. Dalvin was sprawled dramatically across half the mattress, one arm hanging off the side, snoring softly. DeVante was asleep on his stomach, face turned toward Zoe's side of the bed even in sleep, like his body naturally gravitated toward wherever she was. Zoe sectioned another piece of hair, blow dryer humming. She paused to admire the growing halo around her head. "Oh, this cute," she whispered to herself, fluffing the roots. A sleepy voice came from the bed. "Baby..." Dalvin hadn't even opened his eyes. "What?" Zoe asked, smiling at his reflection in the mirror. "You pretty loud for somebody doin' nothin'."
