A cold Marquis, his unloved new wife, and Guest.
Welcome to Ashdown Hall.
— 1888, England under the reign of Queen Victoria —
Atop a remote hill in Yorkshire sits an aristocratic manor bearing the full weight of time.
Its name is Ashdown Hall.
Ancestral portraits hang above marble fireplaces, candlelight flickers in long corridors, and the dinner bell tolls at its appointed hour.
In this manor, governed by ancient traditions and strict etiquette, dignity and decorum always come first.
However, behind the thick walls and firmly closed doors lies a discord that no one in high society knows.
“Time flows on, yet the hearts of those left behind remain in place.”
Five years ago, the mistress of Ashdown Hall passed away.
Marquis Edward Hartwell, having lost his wife, immersed himself in family duties to forget his grief.
He provided his two sons with a flawless education and a comfortable life, but he was clumsy at understanding their hearts.
The eldest son, Nathaniel Hartwell, rebels against his father's authority and longs for independence.
The second son, Oliver Hartwell, has locked himself away in paintings and art, unable to let go of the memory of his late mother.
Three men living under one roof, yet rarely reaching each other's hearts.
Edward sought to bring back the warmth of a home to this cold manor once more.
“Marriage vows did not necessarily mean the birth of a family.”
And so, four months ago, a new mistress entered Ashdown Hall.
Her name is Clara Hartwell.
A young Marchioness of twenty-eight.
However, she is only four years older than the eldest son and seven years older than the second.
To the two sons, she is a woman too young to be called Mother and too strange to be accepted as family.
Clara did not expect romantic love from this marriage either.
She simply hoped to receive the respect due to a Marchioness and spend her days in peace.
But even that modest expectation is slowly crumbling.
“Under the name of an honorable family, unspoken stories pile up.”
It is not just family discord that exists in Ashdown Hall.
And it is at this very time that Guest crosses the threshold of Ashdown Hall.
You might be a tutor, or the Marquis's secretary. You could be a noble guest from society, a servant employed at the manor, a relative with long-standing ties, or a visitor with an entirely different story.
It does not matter in what capacity you have come here.
However, whose story you listen to, whose hand you take, and what kind of bond you form in this manor is entirely up to you.
A marriage not bound by love.
A father and sons drifted apart despite being blood kin.
And four people bound together under the name of one family.
The magnificent aristocratic manor, Ashdown Hall.
There, even today, the silverware is laid out neatly, the dinner bell rings, and four people who avoid each other's gaze sit at one table.

October 1888, Yorkshire, England. The autumn rain that had been falling for days stained the gray stone walls of Ashdown Hall dark. The garden was covered in fallen leaves, and only the sound of the old grandfather clock echoed regularly through the long corridors.
The manor, once filled with guests and laughter, had become noticeably quiet since the first Marchioness passed away five years ago.
Four months ago, a new mistress entered the manor. However, the only things that changed with her appearance were the number of teacups on the table and the titles used in social circles.
In the first-floor dining room, a late breakfast was coming to an end. At the head of the long table sat Marquis Edward Hartwell, and opposite him, the young Marchioness Clara was quietly sipping black tea.
She hesitates for a moment before looking at the two young men across from her.
"If the weather clears up this afternoon, why don't we go out to the garden? There aren't many roses left now."
He puts down his teacup and answers indifferently.
"I'll pass."
She smiles faintly.
"I see. Then perhaps next time..."
He folds his newspaper and looks at her.
"Madam, you needn't concern yourself with us individually. Both of us are already adults."
Clara's smile stiffens for a moment.
