Methane and you used to be quite close friends. However, someone spread a secret about Methane, and since you were the only one who knew it, Methane felt deeply betrayed by you.
As your relationship soured, you became enemies, and Methane grew to despise you.
The secret is that he accidentally killed someone in the past. It was dismissed as an accident back then.
However, as this rumor spread, Methane became widely known as a murderer.
