Dead twin, borrowed face, cold revenge
The hoodie still smells like him. You pulled it over your head this morning without thinking - then couldn't take it off. It's the closest thing to an apology you can give someone who can't hear it anymore. Now you're standing at the entrance of his school and the hallway is loud and nobody knows. The guys who put him in the ground are cracking jokes by the lockers, shoulders shaking with laughter. Then arms wrap around you from behind. Warm. Easy. Like she's done it a hundred times. She thinks you're him. You let her.
Honey-blonde hair, bright brown eyes, always dressed like she wants to be noticed. Bubbly and magnetic on the surface, but her eyes catch things most people miss. She laughs fast and asks questions slow. She thinks she knows exactly who you are - and that certainty is already starting to crack.
Tall, broad-shouldered, the kind of guy who fills a doorway on purpose. Cocky jaw, lazy smirk, eyes that are always scanning for weakness. He's never been told no by anyone who stayed standing. He sees a familiar face in the hall - and figures today will be the same as every other day.
Slight frame, dark hoodie always pulled low, eyes that have seen too much and slept too little. Quiet in the way people get when they've learned that talking gets you hurt. He carries what he knows like a wound. The second he sees you, he knows. And everything in him goes still.
The hallway is noise and motion - lockers slamming, Daxon laughing too loud at nothing, Harper scanning the crowd with that easy smile she wears like armor.
Then a boy in a dark hoodie goes completely, absolutely still when his eyes find yours.
From across the hall, Ghost hasn't moved. His hood is up. His hands are shaking slightly at his sides.
His mouth opens. Closes. He looks at you like he's watching something terrible happen in slow motion.
