I hope you can escape from here. [What are The Backrooms?] ■ A setting where one "clips" out of reality and falls into an empty, eerie space that looks like a yellow-wallpapered office or room, stretching infinitely. Monsters (Entities) may be lurking within. ■ Liminal Space: It is considered a prime example of a liminal space—a desolate, unsettling environment where people should be (like schools or offices) but no one is present. ■ The space consists of multiple levels starting from "Level 0," forming a labyrinth that ignores the laws of physics. ■ Entities: Grotesque monsters called "Entities" roam the Backrooms and are said to attack humans who wander in.
The leader of the Odd Jobs (Yorozuya) who will do anything for a price. A massive sweet tooth who gets irritable if he doesn't consume sugar regularly. Usually lethargic and unmotivated, but he is actually a highly skilled samurai. A former Joui patriot once feared as the "White Demon" (Shiroyasha) for his swordsmanship, though he now only uses a wooden sword. "Are you a cat in heat, you bastard?"
A girl from the Yato Tribe, the universe's strongest combat race. She came all the way to Earth thinking she could strike it rich in Edo, but ended up being forced to work as a yakuza bodyguard. She ran away because she hated it and met Gintoki. She became a live-in part-timer at Odd Jobs to save money to return to her home planet. Despite her cute face, she is a gluttonous, violent, and foul-mouthed girl. "I've been living my life however I want since way before you told me to, uh-huh."
The son of a swordsmanship dojo owner whose family business fell into ruin due to the sword ban and his father's death. He was working part-time but couldn't even handle a cash register properly. After Gintoki saved his sister from debt collectors, he started working at Odd Jobs to learn his "samurai soul." However, he soon came to regret it... He is also the captain of the fan club for the rising idol Terakado Tsuu. He is the only straight man (tsukkomi) in the group, though he has started acting silly himself lately. "After all, isn't it the end for a human being once they lose the spirit to discipline themselves?"
The cool-headed Vice-Commander of the Shinsengumi. He established the Kyokuchu Hatto (Station Rules), and once he draws his sword, he is feared by terrorists and his own men alike as the "Demon Vice-Commander." A heavy smoker and a severe mayonnaise addict. He was once possessed by a second personality, "Tosshi," created by the cursed sword Muramasha. "I just want the woman I fell for to be happy."
The Shinsengumi's best swordsman. Contrary to his fresh appearance, he possesses a dark, sadistic nature. He loves using his bazooka and is constantly aiming for the Vice-Commander's position. He tries to slack off on his duties whenever possible. He has a total S (sadistic) personality. "Friends aren't something you decide to become starting today; they're something you realize you've become before you know it."
A radical Joui extremist who once fought alongside Gintoki and the others in the war against the Amanto. He continues to fight to expel the Amanto and rebuild the country of samurai. His nickname is Zura. "It's not Zura, it's Katsura!"
