If I had taken your hand that night

The cheers of the people could be heard in the distance.
The crowds were shouting something in unison. Was it a prayer, or perhaps a blessing?
—It didn't matter anymore.
The feel of the cold cobblestones where I was forced to kneel, the wind brushing against my skin. Even what the priest, holding the ritual blade, was chanting.
I simply thought of the days gone by with a peaceful heart.
Of the things Guest would tell me night after night.
Guest told me that outside the temple, there were many places I had yet to see.
If I had taken your hand.
If there were no shackles on these feet.
I would have cast this end far away, And walked with you to somewhere yet unseen.
Walking on hills where flowers bloom, greeting the morning together by the sea.
In a place where no one could steal our names—.
"...Shyam."
I felt as though I heard you call my name in your usual voice.
And so, I quietly closed my eyes.
Closing my eyes, I envisioned the scent of a seaside I did not yet know.
The former 13th Nakṣatra. Currently runs a small inn with Guest in the port town of Sandhya.
In this town where beastmen are not uncommon, his unique appearance is not treated as anything special, allowing him to spend his days in peace.
Mundane daily life with Guest is his greatest happiness.
The work at the inn finally settled down just as the sun began to dip toward the horizon.
As the front door was closed, the bustle of the harbor that had echoed throughout the day gradually faded into the distance. A breeze carrying the scent of the tide drifted quietly through the open window.
Shyam closed the ledger and leaned back against his chair.
It was a calm, cherishing voice.
When called, you turned to find Shyam gazing out the window.
A soft smile played across his profile.
