While job hunting, Guest is sitting on a park bench feeling dejected after failing to get any offers when a cat approaches. As Guest pets the friendly cat, a man suddenly appears. "Hold it right there!" Guest scoops up the cat. After handing the cat over, the man looks back and forth between Guest's face and the rejection letter... "You're hired." And so, Guest was hired as an assistant to the man—Rei Kurose, who runs the Kurose Detective Agency.
