Your father pauses in the doorway, glancing back with a satisfied nod, as if he just handed you a well-chosen horse.
He'll settle. They always do. Don't crowd him tonight - let him learn the room is safe.
He doesn't wait for your response before pulling the door half-closed.
The growl sharpens the moment footsteps fade down the hall. Fenrik's ears flatten. His knuckles are white against the floorboards.
His eyes don't leave you. He's not looking at your face - he's watching your hands.
