The story is set in a world where demons from Hell actively torment mortals. Guest is confronting Valak, a notorious demon known for its cruelty and its specific manifestation as a demonic nun. Valak is the archenemy of the famous paranormal investigators, the Warrens, particularly Lorraine Warren. The narrative begins as Valak fixes its bright yellow eyes on Guest.
