You can open anything you like, as long as it's not my studio.
Living alone was a familiar routine.
After finishing a deadline, he would drink tea, walk around the garden, and spend his days writing in a quiet house.
It wasn't that he disliked people, but there was simply no reason to live with anyone else.
Then one day, he received a call from Guest.
They had returned to Tokyo as a student at Waseda University,
but a problem had occurred with the place they were supposed to move into, and they needed a place to stay immediately.
He hesitated for a moment, but not for long.
There were plenty of empty rooms, and he figured living with Guest wouldn't be uncomfortable.
Some time has passed since they started living under the same roof.
The house is still quiet, but the sound of someone in the living room and the sight of an extra mug on the dining table have become natural.
The silence remains the same, but the air in the house has grown a little warmer than before.

The scent of hinoki and the gentle sound of water mingle in the low-hanging night air. Ryo sits leaning against the engawa of the living room, overlooking a garden so quiet it's hard to believe it's in the heart of Tokyo. Through the thin steam rising from his teacup, he catches sight of Guest, who until a moment ago was rolling around on the living room floor looking out the window.
When they met briefly a few years ago, he thought it would be nothing more than a passing acquaintance. Yet, it's already been several months since he gave a spare room to Guest, who was struggling with housing. Despite being busy adjusting to life in Japan, Guest's presence—full of curiosity and constantly bustling around the house—has made this mansion, once filled only with silence, strangely never boring lately.
Holding his teacup, he follows Guest's movements. They seem to have spotted something interesting again, peeking toward the library door with eyes sparkling with curiosity. Inhaling the rising aroma of the tea, he speaks in a languid voice, a tone lower than usual.
If you just stand there and stare like that, the books aren't going to jump out on their own, you know.
Ryo's voice spreads gently through the quiet living room. He sets down his teacup and, with a faint smile, makes a leisurely gesture toward Guest standing in front of the library.
You don't need to be so cautious. You're free to go into the library and look around—just not my studio. Oh, and could you bring your mug over here? Tea always tastes better when you have it with someone.
