Why is even the heroine falling for me?!
A dark reverse-harem novel recommended by my younger sister: 'The Villainess Lady Renelle of the Duchy Does Not Want Three Obsessive Male Leads!' It's a romance fantasy novel full of clichés. Curiously, the names were changed for the Japanese edition, which made it feel fresh enough to read. The writing wasn't bad, so I read it to the end, but the ending was a total mess where all three male leads died, so I skipped the side stories. But why of all things... Why did I have to be transmigrated into 'The Villainess Lady Renelle of the Duchy Does Not Want Three Obsessive Male Leads!'? Why me? ...Ah, you're asking who my favorite character is? It's the tyrant emperor, Narumi Gen. First of all, Narumi is handsome. Truly. Every time I saw the descriptions in the novel and the occasional illustrations, I loved how beautiful and handsome he was. It wasn't just his face that I liked—though his face was about 80% of it. I couldn't help but love him because he was smart. His backstory was great. Narumi was the Emperor's first son, born to a maid who became a concubine. Because of that, he lived under the Empress's threats since childhood. Despite this, he rose to the throne through his brilliant mind, superior martial arts, and cruel nature. Well, he had to become cruel. His mother died, he was discriminated against as a bastard, and he lived under constant threat of assassination. He ended up killing the former Empress, all his younger siblings, and finally the former Emperor to take the throne. Later, he encountered the villainess Renelle while she was out in secret. Seeing her brilliance instead of the villainous reputation he'd heard of, he fell in love and became obsessed. Narumi is the strongest in the empire—an Archmage and Sword Master—a tyrant obsessive male lead with a cruel streak. The second male lead is Ichikawa Reno. Ichikawa was the second son of a Viscount family, but after his entire family died, he became the Viscount at a young age, reviving the family and territory to become a merchant guild leader. With his honest personality, he won the heart of the heroine Renelle, and people debated whether he was the true male lead. But my taste is bad boys, so he wasn't for me. ...Wait, I thought Ichikawa was a soft younger-man type, but it turns out he was a crazy obsessive male lead who uses black magic. The third male lead is Hoshina Souichiro. I hated him from the start because we share the same name. Even his face in the author's illustrations looked similar, which I didn't like. Souichiro was the heir to a Dukedom in the south. A prodigy who became the heir during a time when swordsmanship was declining and magic was taking over, excelling in both. He had a youngest brother, five years his junior, who had been dead for about a year: Hoshina Soushiro. There wasn't much detail, but because Renelle was the only one who protected Soushiro when everyone else looked down on him, Souichiro gradually fell for her and became obsessed. Souichiro is a Sword Master and nearly Archmage-level, a sly and obsessive male lead. So now, of all people, I've transmigrated into Hoshina Soushiro, who is destined to die soon. It feels weirdly awkward since we have the same name. I'm currently 18, which means I have two years left until I die. Within that time, I have to solve this 'High Mana Syndrome' and escape from this crazy romance plot.

When I came to, I was...
...in a ballroom for a debutante ball, straight out of a romance fantasy world. I was kneeling, and when I slowly looked up, I saw a man with unique bangs wearing a lavish, jewel-encrusted imperial crown. He was clearly the Emperor. He looked quite young, and thinking I was just having a vivid dream from reading too many novels, I simply followed the Emperor's low-voiced commands. But then.*
As I was standing up, my strength failed and I stumbled, falling over. An 'Ow...' escaped my lips. Wait, why does it hurt if it's a dream? The moment I felt the pain, I thought, 'I'm screwed.' This was the moment the Emperor bestows a blessing upon a noble child who has reached adulthood at their debutante. And I had to fall right then. If this isn't a dream, then what...
Meanwhile, the Emperor approached. Risking rudeness, I looked up, and the Emperor's face was identical to my favorite character, Narumi Gen. I could hear the nobles whispering, asking if the Hoshina family was finished and if they should switch sides. Wait, the Hoshina family? The one I know? Then, the Emperor opened his mouth.
"Hoshina Soushiro of the Hoshina family, was it? I heard your swordsmanship was excellent, but was it all just a bluff?"
It was exactly like the novel. The scene where the rude Renelle gets torn down by the Emperor—wait, this is supposed to be Renelle's role, not Soushiro's. Then, a hand reached out from behind to support me as someone walked up. Long hair brushed against my neck. Hoshina Souichiro.
Oh, please. Oh, hell no, not this.
That's right. I...
...had transmigrated into the villainess Renelle's position. And of all things, in a situation where I'm being utterly humiliated by the Emperor at my debutante.
Transmigration itself isn't the problem. In fact, being a noble makes it okay. Since it's a cliché-filled romance fantasy, I could probably escape my death sentence and be happy with a little effort. Sure, that's possible. But the reason I liked the villainess Renelle was...
The heroine almost dies for the slightest things. Executed for wearing a dress color similar to a princess because it 'damaged her honor,' executed for 'insulting the imperial family' by stepping on their land (which, honestly, I've forgotten the details of), divorce and alimony lawsuits for making her fiancé feel bad... I've transmigrated into a total mess of a novel. And if I'm already destined to die here... I can't even imagine how much harder things are going to get.
I'm screwed.
