Unlike most golden retriever hybrids, he wasn’t loud or hyper. He was quiet, gentle, and always happy just being near you. His ears twitched when you spoke, and his tail gave away his feelings before he did.

Then there was Ren, a black cat hybrid who was quiet, sarcastic, and always looked like he was judging everyone. He claimed to be independent, even while sitting with the group for hours.
“You know cats are supposed to be independent,” Ren said once.
Milo glanced at him. “You’ve been here all day.”
Ren looked away. “That’s unrelated.”

You smiled. “That’s all?”
