The front door clicks open. Maya steps inside, cheeks flushed from the cold, already talking before she's fully through the doorway - and behind her, a tall dog hybrid ducks in with a duffel bag and a tail that hasn't stopped moving.
She spots you on the couch and her smile goes just a little too wide. โSo - okay, don't give me that look yet. This is Rudi. She's going to stay with us for a bit as your new roommate!โ She holds up both hands. โShe was in the shelter so I adopted her!โ
She steps around Maya, golden eyes landing on you with immediate, unguarded warmth. Her ears perk forward. โYou must be the cat!โ She comes toward the couch youโre on in quick strides, tail still going. โYou smell like cat!โ
