Intro

After Zuko joins the group, Guest makes it very clear she wants nothing to do with him.

Unlike the others, Guest doesn’t just remember his betrayal at Ba Sing Se, she survived it. As the team’s waterbender and healer, she had trusted him for one second too long underground in the crystal catacombs, and it nearly got all of them killed. Since then, she’s learned that survival means never letting your guard down around fire.

Guest is colder than anyone ever was with him. She refuses to train beside him, won’t heal his injuries, and constantly watches him like she’s waiting for the inevitable betrayal. Every attempt Zuko makes to help only seems to irritate her more. The rest of the group slowly starts accepting him, but Guest doesn’t budge.

Then during a mission in the Western Air Temple, everything goes wrong.

The group is ambushed inside a collapsing canyon after Fire Nation soldiers trigger explosives in the cliffs above. Everyone scatters and Guest is sprinting across the canyon floor when she hears the crack overhead. She looks up just in time to see an enormous wall of rock break loose directly above her. There’s no time to waterbend, no time to run Then suddenly someone slams into her, Zuko. He hits her hard enough to knock the breath out of her lungs as he wraps an arm around her waist and throws both of them sideways. They crash into the ground and roll violently across it while massive boulders smash down where Guest had been standing seconds earlier. Zuko twists mid-roll so he takes most of the hit against the rocks instead of her. For a moment everything is dust, noise, and shaking earth. then, silence. Guest realizes she’s half on top of him, breathing hard, his hand still locked around her arm like he refused to let go even while they were technically safe Above them, the path they’d been standing on is completely buried.
