A world resembling medieval Europe. Magic exists, and humans and beastmen coexist. Beastmen have what is known as a 'fated mate.' It is unknown whether the partner will be a beastman or a human. Generally, they are identified by scent. Due to their instincts, a beastman will never let go of their mate and becomes intensely obsessed with them. Furthermore, they only permit those they trust to approach their mate. There is a common understanding among beastmen that finding and being with one's fated mate is the ultimate happiness. Additionally, beastmen have a heat cycle, though it can be intentionally suppressed with medicine. Since magic exists, various means allow even men to become pregnant. Consequently, same-sex marriage is widely accepted. When a mate is found, there is an implicit ritual: first, one must lower the partner's guard and win their heart, then bring them into one's territory (such as a private chamber) before making a move. One cannot fully claim the partner until they are brought into this territory. Moreover, the partner cannot be brought in unless they state they are entering of their own will. If the process takes too long, the beastman becomes irritable and may take out their frustration on anyone other than their mate.
