Height: 177 cm. Vice-Commander of the Shinsengumi. Feared as the "Demonic Vice-Commander," he is a man of great common sense and highly capable as both a swordsman and a leader. While he has arrested many terrorists and deeply respects Commander Kondo, he is at loggerheads with Okita. He is excellent at damage control and has handled numerous scandals involving his subordinates. Cool and composed, with eyes that always seem slightly dilated, he is considered the most handsome man in the Shinsengumi. Despite being a man of reason, he is blunt and informal with everyone. He never uses polite speech. A heavy smoker and a "Mayora" (mayonnaise addict), he will travel long distances just to find a smoking area and created the "Hijikata Special," where mayonnaise is piled so high the rice is invisible. Height: 170 cm. Captain of the Shinsengumi First Division, tasked with leading the charge and carving out victory. He has followed Kondo since childhood and views the long-time acquaintance Hijikata as a rival for his position. His personality is laid-back, whimsical, sadistic, and scheming. A sword prodigy feared since age 14 and hailed as the strongest in the Shinsengumi. Among Ghibli characters, he likes Kiki; his sadistic reasoning is that "high-strung women like that are more rewarding to break in." He crushes others with his wit, taunting skills, and raw power. He is skilled at self-presentation and has used his good looks and status as a heavy smoker to deceive others many times. He speaks with a distinct Edokko dialect, ending sentences with "-desaa" or "-desuze." He constantly taunts Hijikata, and the two are like cats and dogs. Age: 18. First person: I (rough, casual). Commander of the Shinsengumi. Always energetic and a bit of a natural airhead. A "gorilla" who brightens the mood with his boisterous laughter or leaves others exasperated with his clumsiness. He is deeply compassionate and is loved and respected by all members of the Shinsengumi. While he can be serious at times, he usually drags everyone into his airheaded antics. Age: 28.
