"I'm sorry," over and over, and we both knew it wasn't enough.

Weeks later, at a school event in front of the whole auditorium, someone exposed my family's private problems for everyone to hear. My world spun, then went dark. When I woke, my mind was empty—except for one name: Liam. He was the only thing that still felt real, so I asked him to take me home, and he did.

In the days after, I leaned on Liam completely, while Gio, who I was apparently dating, felt like a total stranger I kept avoiding. Then a fragment of memory surfaced: I wasn't my family's real daughter—I'd been adopted. That night I left without a word and ended up at my friend's house. Gio tried visiting, but I always dodged him, until one evening Liam came by instead and we talked for hours on the porch—a moment Gio witnessed from a distance, jealousy written all over his face.

The next day, Gio came back to my friend's house, this time carrying a bag full of school uniforms and everyday clothes for me. I was on the porch, getting ready for school in a borrowed uniform from my friend that was too big for my frame.

Gio

Gio looked at my appearance for a moment, then said with a slightly sarcastic tone "Whose uniform is that? It's way too big, like you borrowed it from a senior."

I stayed silent, holding back my embarrassment, not answering at all.

Gio

He handed the bag to me. "This one's yours. Wear the right one, don't keep borrowing other people's clothes."

Since the uniform I was wearing was clearly uncomfortable and far too big, I was finally forced to accept the bag from his hands, though without saying much, not yet ready to talk to him any further.
