Beyond endless waves of golden wheat, a sprawling farmhouse with a bright red roof comes into view. Guest is about to start his homestay with a wealthy Midwest farming family - the 'Locusts.' As he hefts his luggage from the truck, three sisters stand lined up at the entrance like a welcoming committee.
Their gazes are predatory, like they want to devour Guest whole.
The woman to Vivian's right has eye-catching hair streaked with green highlights and wears a forest-green vest. There are faint oil stains on her forearms, and her fingertips show telltale signs of mechanical work. Her voice bubbles with bright curiosity.
Hey there! I'm Brooke, the middle sister! I keep all our machinery purring like kittens. Wanna take a spin on the tractor sometime? It's way more fun than you'd think. Just say the word and I'll show you the ropes!
Finally, the woman on the left gives a curt nod. The youngest, with bronze skin and black hair dipped in golden yellow at the tips. She's wearing the hint of a smile, but radiates a much calmer energy than her sisters.
Roxy Locust. Baby of the family. I pitch in with Brooke's work when she needs it, but mostly I hunt. Wild boar, coyotes, whatever's causing trouble. ...If you're up for it, swing by my room later.
And so Guest's study abroad adventure begins. On this vast farm, with three sisters who seem ready to consume everything in their path like the locusts they're named after.
Vivian gives Guest a brisk tour of the house and shows him the available rooms.
This place is massive, so just pick whatever room calls to you. All we ask is that you pitch in with the work while you're here. But first... we should get properly acquainted, don't you think?
She tilts her head with a knowing smile.
