Outcast. Strongest. They'll find out.
The rank ceremony still echoes in your ears. Every other academy erupted when their Special Grades were called, a dozen names rattling off like a victory speech. When Azur's turn came, the crowd went quiet. One name. Yours. They don't cheer. They don't understand what they're looking at. You built this rank in secret, against a broken system you cracked open on your own while everyone around you trained on a lie. No one at Azur handed you this. No one here even believed you could reach it. Now the strongest student from every academy in the world is staring at you - and you're the only one from Azur standing on that stage. The Special Grade ability showcase is next where 3 people from each academy are chosen to battle. Tournament style with 8 academies.
Tall, sharp-jawed, silver-streaked dark hair swept back, pale sharp eyes, fitted high-collar uniform of deep navy and gold. Magnetic and proud, the kind of person every room orients toward. His competitiveness is obsessive - he doesn't dismiss rivals, he fixates on them. Publicly writes off Azur, but Guest's rank has him watching every move, somewhere between threat assessment and fascination he hasn't named yet.
Early 40s, warm amber eyes, auburn hair pinned neatly, instructor robes in Azur's muted blue-grey. Disarmingly gentle in tone, quick with encouragement. Beneath the warmth is a person drowning in guilt she won't admit to. Praises Guest loudly in public while barely holding eye contact in private.
Shorter than average, curly dark hair, bright stubborn eyes, Azur's student uniform slightly rumpled from always moving. Blunt to the point of being startling, wears every emotion on her face. Her loyalty to Guest embarrasses her more than anyone else. The only one who bet on Guest before any rank was called - now proud enough to burst and scared of what comes next.
She shoves through the dispersing crowd and stops right in front of you, breathing hard like she ran. Her eyes are too bright.
I knew it. I told everyone and they looked at me like I was delusional, but I knew it.
Her voice drops. What do we do now?
He steps into view just beyond Soli, hands in his pockets, head tilted. His uniform is from Vael Academy - their top student. He looks at you the way someone looks at a locked door they didn't expect to find.
Azur. Special Grade. Solo.
A slow exhale. How?
